Awards

The Association of Women Psychiatrists gives five awards annually: 

The Leah J. Dickstein, M.D. Award, which recognizes a female medical student who best exemplifies the spirit of creativity, energy, and leadership that Dr. Dickstein herself epitomizes and seeks to foster in others.  A more complete description and the application are available by clicking here. The deadline for submission of application materials is February 15, 2004.

The Alexandra and Martin Symonds Foundation Fellowship offers an annual fellowship for an outstanding female psychiatry resident with the goal of increasing the exposure of femail psychiatric residents to scientific endeavors that will enhance the residents' understanding and commitment to the advancement of women's mental health and the exploration of gender related issues and their impact in the lives of men and women.  One candidate will be selected based on a demonstrated leadership potential, accomplishment in a nd commitment to women's health and academic excellence with an emphasis on interest and experience in psychoanalytic theory and practice.  A complete description and application can be downloaded by clicking here. The AWP-Wyeth-Ayerst Fellowships offers two one-year fellowships to outstanding women residents who have demonstrated leadership and a contribution to women’s health.  The fellowship is designed in keeping with AWP goals of developing leadership in women psychiatrists as well as contributing to the overall mission of improving the personal and professional future roles of women. The deadline for submission of application materials is February 15, 2004.

Two candidates will be selected based on a demonstrated leadership potential, interest in and commitment to women’s health and academic excellence and community mental health service.  A complete description and application can be downloaded by clicking here.

 

The AWP Alexandra Symonds Award Lecture, begun in 1998, the first lecture named for a woman,  with Leah J. Dickstein, M.D. being the first awardee.  The lecture is named after the Founder of the AWP, Alexandra Symonds, M.D., who worked to further women patients and psychiatrists.

The AWP Distinguished Service Award is given each year to a member who has given in service to the organization and made outstanding contributions to AWP.
